Fire Alarm Regulations BS5839 require the duty holder to undertake periodic checks to ensure the functionality of the system. Failure to keep the the fire alarm system in working order could lead to the local fire brigade to serve enforcement notices requiring compliance. Certification

BS5839: Pt6: 2004 recommends that a new build property consisting of no more than 3 floors (less than 200sqm per floor) should be fitted with a Grade D, LD2 system. Building Regulations in England, Wales and Scotland recommend that BS 5839:Pt6 should be followed, but a minimum Grade D, LD3 systems should be installed.
