The potential costs of fire at commercial premises
Businesses need little encouragement to introduce electronic fire alarm systems on their premises. The fact is that we all know the damage that fire can do. However, it helps to remind ourselves from time to time just what the costs can be.
Damage to premises
Fire obviously causes a great deal of damage, but it can be contained and controlled if it is caught early enough. It’s not just the company premises that are in danger – it’s also the surrounding premises. Businesses have a duty to the community to look after their buildings.
Loss of assets
There is also the danger that fire will destroy the assets within the building rather than just doing damage to the premises. In terms of the value of assets, this is actually more of a danger. Businesses can suffer huge financial losses because of fire incidents.
Injury and loss of life
The biggest issue is the threat of injury and loss of life. Evacuation procedures usually have what it takes to get everyone out safely in good time, but they have to know that there is an emergency situation developing. This is what fire alarm systems are all about.
