Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas, which is made up of one carbon atom and one oxygen atom and is lighter than air. It is highly toxic to humans and animals in high quantities and these qualities can make it very hard to detect it's presence.

It is also a close relative of the gas Carbon Dioxide (CO2) which itself is made up of one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms and is something that we breathe out as part of our normal respiratory process. However, unlike CO2, Carbon Monoxide is a bit unstable and given the opportunity it will take one of the oxygen atoms and turn into carbon dioxide. If Carbon Monoxide is breathed in, then this process starts to occur within a human body and the oxygen levels will start to decrease leading to head-aches, tiredness, dizziness and a feeling of nausea. If a continued exposure to the gas occurs then it can ultimately lead to death.

As Carbon Monoxide is clearly so dangerous and highly toxic to humans it is opbviously imperative to know if it is around in order to protect yourself, your family and/or your employees. Although it naturally occurs in small quantities, and this isn’t dangerous at this level malfunctioning gas appliances, such as boilers or gas fires, can produce Carbon Monxide in large enough quantities to kill.

This is where AEL Systems can help protect you. Carbon Monoxide detectors work in a similar way to how a smoke alarm detects smoke, and we can even supply detectors that are both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If the Carbon Monoxide detector senses that carbon monoxide levels are rising, it produces a loud audible warning signal giving you the time to open the windows and evacuate the buildings.

AEL Systems can supply, install and maintain a carbon monoxide detector to detect traces of carbon monoxide. and protect yourself and your family from something that is easily preventable.
