A woman has been left fighting for her life after a fire in a Rochdale home. Fire-fighters dashed to the blaze when they were called by a relative of the woman who has now been admitted to Fairfield General Hospital. The relative was alerted by the emergency because of the smoke alarm system installed at the property.
Tom Hague, the Watch Manager on the case, said:
“The fire was confined to the kitchen of the house and wasn’t intense, but the property was heavily smoke logged when we arrived. We found an elderly lady unconscious at the top of the stairs.”
The woman in question’s condition has been described as life-threatening largely as a result of her exposure to the toxic smoke associated with fires.
The case acts as a stark reminder that all fire alarm systems must be installed and maintained both in domestic and commercial settings where they do the priceless job of alerting people as soon as possible to emergencies, enabling the proper action to be taken to limit damage and avoid casualties.
Fire-fighters attend countless fires in commercial and domestic spaces each year and fire alarm systems help them to arrive on the scene in time to prevent fatalities and to save the buildings threatened by each blaze.
